Now I tried to get into FFX-2, but unfortunately, it didn't cut it for me as Final Fantasy X did. Even though X wasn't my favorite Final Fantasy, it was WAY better than X-2.
What didn't I like about it? The game was basically centered around the dressphere system...and they gave those away like it was a huge prize, or something. The story sucked, and it basically was a game targeted for teenage girls. Good idea, Square Enix, but definitely the wrong way to go about it.
What are your thoughts and opinions?

I don't own FFX or FFX-2. After hearing the moans and groans of disappointment from some big FF fans about FFX, I never even bothered (besides, I was a little skeptical). I watch my roommate play FFX-2 and I've come to the conclusion the FFX-2 was there to targer a much younger crowd or teenage girls, not the rabid FF fans of old. I was never interested in playing a game where three girls were the main characters with a kind of irritating "Girl Power!" vibe. Besides that, the story line was extremely weak and this is how I know: if there ever is a time when someone can summarize a FF storyline in 1-2 sentences, it's not worth playing. So I had adamantly stayed away from it. Even though this is the first Square game my roommate has ever played... so I'm forced to at least listen to Rikku's high-pitched screeching howler monkey voice. Yuna seems overly happy... and kind of... um... nevermind. The only one that seems slightly okay is Paine, but then you have to listen to her boring "the world's against me" monotone voice. Squaresoft/Enix's quality of games has been going down and so I've been really cautious about what I get now. And this game, is definitely one of them.

Were their ANY Bishies anywhere in X-2? If not, I don't know if it's worth my time....
I mean, is that not what all of the Final Fantasy games catered to, fangirls' love of hot, angsty, effeminate men who are paired up with weak, hate-able female supporting characters?
But in all honesty, I think this may have been Square's way of trying to apologize for FFX. Granted, it was beautiful, but the ending nearly made my brain burst into flames out shear lameness. And also, I think I may still be on the FF banwagon for the distinct pleasure of seeing how far the cg animation can go. It seems there is nowhere to go but up on that degree. I think I stopped caring about Final Fantasy's storyline after around FF9. Now it's all about how purty they can make it.

Nope, there were no ultimately hot guys in it, the only one I vaguely liked was...damn, it sucked so much that I forgot the guy's name...started with a 'G' though. Something like Giotch or Gimp...I can't remember. But generally, it blew. I know whoever came up with that game should be writing handwritten letters of apology to those who bought it.
Yeah, never thought I would say it, but I've fallen headfirst off of the Final Fantasy bandwagon. The only characters that really cut it (and were not ruined by fanboys...sorry SK for your love of Sephiroth and Riku from Kingdom Hearts) for me were Kuja and Squall (Seifer's not even on my top list anymore). But yeah...If XII blows, I'm going to start rooting for Namco. Fuck Square if they think they can get away with something like X-2 and expect people to flock to the stores nowadays...Ever since they merged with Enix, the quality of games have plummeted. They're practically milking off SquareSoft's success in the past...I mean, they have 2 games scheduled to come out as prequels to FFVII, thanks to the popularity they made when they announced Advent Children was coming out. If they even try to make a game about Ultimecia's past (FFVIII) in the near future, I'm going to shoot myself for liking Square in the past.

Well they do have Star Ocean coming out, which seemed very well made, even if the cg is a bit....shoddy. But I also know a ton of people who drool over FFXI, but then, they are also mostly the Evercrack crowd.
Yeah, Namco is did an awesome job with Xenosaga, and I can't wait for the next one to come out. Square needs to pick up a few pointers...

FFX-2........ well there only thing that game had going for it was the job changing system which was fairly good. The chars were all on Speed or PCP, the story was lacking and contained many holes.
I probably won't be buying FFXII since it looks disturbingly similar to FFX/-2. FFXI has been the only recent FF game that's had any redeeming qualities to it.

I haven't bought a FF game after FF8, but I've played FF9 to an extent. I'm terrified of anything after FF9 for the simple fact that FFX didn't get all that great reviews from the hardcore FF fans that bought it. I listen to my roommate play it and nothing sticks out to me. It's not like in the other games where at least the music sticks out, or the emotion in the characters at least make you *look* at the tv when something's happening. All I want to do is beat my roommate for playing the game and put on the FF8 soundtrack. I don't think you could pay me enough to play FFX or the sequel. They were both a slap in the face and I wanted them to take all the discs and make a dinner out of them. As for the following games, I kinda wandered away from FFXI, I don't own it, but the idea of owning it kinda... disappeared. And I'm not too sure of FFXII just because the characters look recycled and the places have a strange Star Wars look to them. *sniffles* I miss the old Square...

I am proud to say that I don't own any FF games, they all make me sad. However, the only one I could play and not be made to impale myself with a fork was eight. Perhaps I need to play it more.

ive completed 7 and eight on psx. ive also completed one and legends on the gb but nine was kinda shitty, played about 18 hours and lost interest i couldnt be bothered to switch formats for x, and am glad i made the decision. and the crystal chronicals? pretty good for fun wise, not much storyline but good oldskool run, jump, collect, kill em up if i see anything for x-2 i avert my eyes or run in horror. but at least advent children is looking hopefull as long as they dont get some hollywood assholes to do the dubs....
ff7 for ever.
(p.s. spirits within kinda sucked too)

[glow=blue,4,300]I loved FFIX, the parts that I've seen (I will never remember my screaming in horror fit when I saw Kuja for the first time... ST can attest to that). The only real reason I am staying on the FF bandwagon, like Auraki says, is to see how far the CG can go. I hate X-2, I can't stand the shrill voices and Prozac happiness (no offense to anyone on Prozac). Spirits Within had an okay storyline, but the graphics were amazing. Did you see the texture and wrinkles on that old guy's face!? I just hated it when they made Aki's (I think that's her name?) hair so friggin' flowy. Like 24/7 she was in water. That drove me nuts after awhile. I'd have to say it was a pretty good try to do something different though. Auraki, is that the *only* reason you WATCH ST play FF games? For the angsty bishies? LOL, you never cease to amaze me.[/glow]

i played 4/5/6/7/8/9 and 10, in my eyes quality of both gameplay and graphics increased till seven which is where gameplay had in my eyes reached the top and from what forth graphics were getting better at insane pace;
to me 7 is the best for its story, the way the characters are introduced and act and all...
10 was the reason i didnt buy X-II, i didnt feel like wasting more money for this crap, X was the first game that had an experience system that just bored the hell out of me... i mean where's the point in having different characters when they can learn the same sheit anyhow? and whats the point in fast fightscenes if you have to spend more time using the xp and damn spheres afterwards
as for X-II i seen a rewiev that terrified me, then talked to someone that owned it... was kind of depressing
as for the prequels to FF-VII i have some hopes since my love for the game might fool me enough to like thems...
sad world for gamers, thank god i have electric guitars now

I agree with you Kurdt. It was mostly the reviews from people who owned the games that really discouraged me from getting it. Besides, the concept of a sequel to a FF game was so... unheard of and unexpected that I was already skeptical of the game...
I guess we always have FFXII, right? :-\
On the otherhand, the more trailers I see for FFVII:AC the more excited I get. Especially since they stamped a release date for it (finally).

Well, I loved FFX & FFX-2 & I'm deffo not a teenager ^^
I agree that X-2 was no way near as good as ANY other FF game but it wasn't meant to be, it was a sequel. It was made because there were so many fans of FFX that wanted the story continued.
I never ever read reviews for games. I tend to find out what they are about and if I like the look of them I buy them, I never get into all the hype so I'm never disappointed or pleasantly surprised because I made the choice to buy it. I think hype was the main killer of FFX...people expected too much or another VII...just like Audition...but that's just what I think...

I'm not a big fan of buying a game on blind faith. I think the only games I've ever done that for were some FF games, Suikoden III (the cover looked cool), Crimson Tears 2 and Shining Tears. Otherwise, I do read up on them. I don't go on an excursion for information, I have a subscription for GameInformer magazine and figure I mine-as-well get my money's worth.
And as for Square actually giving into the demads of their fans when it comes to making sequels... I don't think it's a wise move, simply because they either end up flopping or disappointing the fans. When you have good games like FFX and FFVII that leave the fans wanting more, the sequels aren't going to be that good. It's not like they made the first one with a sequel in mind... they basically have to scrounge around and grab for ideas... I'll admit I'm looking forward to Advent Children, but I'm more interested to see if they screw up...
