What do you consider to be qualities of a great game? Or what are the elements of a game you've played that made it truly memorable??
When I play a game, I enjoy becoming attached to certain characters and I also love hating characters too.
I think a great game in my eyes is an amazing and unique storyline with memorable characters and a gorgeous world. The characters have to have a personality, like a real personality. Not one like, "I want to save everyone!" and they're the epitome of perfect and the bad guy is like, "DIE!" and is the epitome of evil. I like the good guy/hero to be one that you're not too sure about. Their intentions are rather unclear and they make you wonder what side they're on. Or the nonchalant hero that's like, *sigh* "Well, I have nothing better to do..."
One thing I love about villians is that now they're making villains seem more human in rationality and actions. They're plans seem brilliant yet flawed because they let their emotions take over them.
And I hate to say it, but I love villains who have a shady or sad past (i.e. Sephiroth, Kuja, Inuart <--Drakengard, Victor Delacroix <--Chaos Legion). It helps to understand why they're acting like a homocidal maniac.
I love new worlds and I love seeing what the creators can come up with to make their world stand apart from others. Different creatures, different races/species, different modes of transportation. It becomes boring when in every single game you have to see either a ship, train, or walk to get around.
And the unique storyline... fairly self-explanatory. I don't want to play a game where the hero has to go save the damsel in distress or go save a city from being destroyed. That was great for the classics, but now there should be more creativity being shown here.
