My computer got reformatted earlier, and when I reinstalled XP, I forgot that it didn't come with an anti-virus. I looked on download.com and found a really good one...but it's only a trial version. Is there a good anti-virus I can install on my computer without paying a fee? Because the free ones on download.com are kinda...weird. But I guess beggars can't be choosers...

You mean what method do I use for filesharing? Forgive me...I'm kinda clueless on what you mean 'stances of warez'.

Forgive my "beating around the bush"
Warez = Pirated Software
Pretty much boils down to d/ling the proggy in question then obtaining a crack or key gen to enable the full functions of the proggy without paying for it. Widely done across the world and on a constant basis.
Some of you more morally inclined persons shun such things but, the rest of us moneyless persons use such methods as to obtaining various software.
If you are not against such things myself and others can assist you in finding an anti-virus to suit your needs.

Oh...auraki knows I'm not adverse to pirated software...half of the programs on here are pirated! I just was unfamiliar with that term. But yeah, I wouldn't mind the help! The thing is this college has a firewall against most filesharing programs...so I know I couldn't use slsk to get programs...AIM seems to be the best bet so far...

e-mule, e-donkey, slsk, bt, direct connect, FTP, mIRC.... can't use any of those? If you don't know what mIRC is, you might try that out. It's free, and you can get wicked fast d/l speeds on there too. If you can get mIRC fired up then go to www.ircspy.com/ and you can more than likely find a anti-virus proggy and crack off there. Alternately you can d/l the proggy from the home website (i.e. norton, mcaffee) to name a few. Then go hunt down a crack/key gen for it and do it that way.

Yep...I've tried all of those programs...and they don't work for me. For a while I thought it was my own firewall that was doing it, but I know a lot of other people who can't either, then I found out from the IT building that a school firewall is in effect.
I tried Norton, but I'd have to pay for it.
Not meaning to sound stupid, but...how do you hunt for the keygens?

Alright, for me first post.....
I got some good, legal stuff right here. Its in zipped format.
Its the latest versions of Norton AND Mcafee. Its Symantic 9 and Mcafee 7.1. If you wanna get ahold of me, I can zip it to you via Aim or something. Its the best stuff out and you wont have to deal with mIRC and possibly get a virus, though mIRC is kickass, I like Imesh. So, yeah, hit me up and Ill be more than happy to assist, best stuff the Navy can offer.

Norton is complete crap and McAfee is even worse,I wouldn't put them on my PC let alone trust them to find any viruses.The only current consumer level AV with a decent scanning engine is Kaspersky.As AV-test.org said,"this was the only package that was capable of detecting a full 100 percent of all test files."
I use Computer Associates eTrust,which is an enterprise class AV,and not recommended for everyday users,as it requires a high level of configuration.However,if you know how to use network/client based scanning,the dual engine feature makes it double redundant,which in this age of AV killing viruses,is worth it's weight in gold.Add in their IDS and Firewall systems,which are all fully intergrated,and you are as about as safe as one can be online.

Well, I dont think that Symantec or Mcafee are crap. Considering the Navy has a 4 year contract with both, and if the Navy deems them appropriate to protect Secret and Higher information, Its good enough for me. Just got to stay on top of the updates, which is taken care of by Symantec live update.
Ive not heard of yours, Ill have to check it out. On a side note, I forgot to mention...do not DO NOT get the free AVG or whatever it is off the net. Its crap and has a backdoor for adware, spyware and Trojans.
