Sad thing about self-built computers is, most people don't realize that you usually spend less money on buying the parts yourself than you would buying a factory built one, and there's usually a big difference in how much better the stability and performance is in a self built computer is too.
My first computer was a factory built one, and it blew arse. Then I got into computers, took computer repair class and started building them for myself and others. They're just so much better overall that it's sad.

Oh yeah definatly. Some parts of mine were tossaways from my ship, the HDD and the Processor, but I still only paid under 500 for all of mine, and that includes my monitor and all. Not to mention you can always mod it to all beat hell. Lights and additional fans whatever. Ive gotten into selling my services to fix/upgrade/build computers, Ive done alot for people on my ship. And I only charge a soda, and maybe lunch. If they happen to offer me a few bucks, I take it only because it would be rude not to, But I dont ask. I like doing it.
I think my next step is Illuminated IDE cables and maybe another fan. My hardware is good enough right now, maybe for xmas ill buy a 256 video card. My next big purchase is a sound card.

My IDE cables are rounded and wrapped in a plastic that reacts to black lights and glows. I can't for the life of me remember what the material is called though. Anywho I've got an old 18'' black light that I have turned on pointing at the case and it glows a cool color.... My case fans react the same way too.
Also it shows the dust in great detail <_< I also have a blue cold cathode tube light for my case which adds to the blue-ish glow from the IDE cables and case fans.
Looks pretty cool overall I think

Honestly, I don't know what my computer is, besides a Compaq Presario S4200NX. According to the sticker plastered on the front...*looks* It has:
2.6 GHz (Intel Celeron Processor) 512MB (DDR SDRAM memory) 120GB (Ultra DMA hard drive) CD-RW drive (48x12x48x max speed) DVD-ROM drive (16x max speed) Easy access USB 2.0 port The mouse and keyboard came with the computer, as did the printer. I got a new Sceptre monitor, but I threw out the box...and the intructions are somewhere in here (my room)...but off-hand, I have no clue about the details.
That's all I can give you guys. You all shouldn't be too jealous at all...Especially not a factory-built comp. ;D

Mori, Building a Tower is fun and easy, just put things in the spots where they fit. Thats about it. Laptops, however suck. I wont touch em internaly. Everything is just RAMMED together. One wrong twist or one wrong *gentle* tap and everything is fucked. I personally dont like laptops, you cant really mod them and enjoy what you buy. But eh, thats me.
