In the general election, it's worth shit. In local elections... then it has a chance of being worth your time

To say so without bias to any person -- I believe it can't be stressed enough that to shirk one's responsibility to vote can be seen as rude and in a serious tense, vulgar. The lives of many have been sacrificed for our ability to this right and if ignorance is the only excuse that may be claimed your redemption may be found in simply learning and committing action. Matters of life can only become worse with the neglect of our people as each day we resemble the apathy of the once great empire of Rome which inevitably was doomed to fall. Not by it's enemies but the disposition of its own people too vicarious and ambitious with their lives to acknowledge bloodshed, currency and politics in war and their carefree lifestyle decided by those on their death beds, persistent to keep tradition and not the well being of their future generations. These are problems quite obvious and broadly summarized in a nutshell. Aside from becoming an official in politics a citizen's greatest asset is the ability to put their "two cents" in through the vote. Frightening as it may be the reality is that the government deals with everything in some shape or form, from the bills of higher education -your college- to the tax on a lollipop you buy a sibling at the convenience store after school. I kinda agree, and kinda don't. Yes, it is very necessary to stay informed in political issues and current events, but your mention of ancient civilizations got me thinking. Local government affects us much more directly than the presidential election. This is not ancient Athens, where a true democracy functions to give every man a weighted vote so that they have an equal part in the governing body (of course, this meant "citizens" who were aristocratic and male). You cannot tell me my vote makes a direct difference because to vote an alderman into office who becomes governor, who becomes senator, who becomes President takes much more time and investment than the recent MTV and youth television networks are alluding. They want young people to vote REGARDLESS, and I have heard many people say, "Who cares if you don't know everything..be a citizen...VOTE!" In my opinion, that is just as dangerous as apathy. The general public is stupid, and will generally follow any shepherd who can tell a pretty lie. But this is beside my point. My solitary vote will have NO bearing on who wins; that is the electoral college's job, unless we have a super duper close voting percentage. Even if this happens, I must admit, I won't care. I hate both Kerry and Bush. I want neither to win, and if I cannot have that, I would rather bask in my apathetic cesspool until the impending apocalypse which I KNOW is coming if either is elected or re-elected into office. I hate politics. I would rather let people who are die-hard wannabe politicians vote, and I will continue to watch CNN (Ted Turner's Brainwash Television) and MSNBC. If the time comes when my vote becomes more important and world-altering, sure, I'll vote. But it's has yet to happen. I am somewhat tired of people telling me it is my duty as an American to vote, when, imo, they will be voting for one of the two biggest shitheads in the country. There is a reason why there is a division in the American public and America's politicians. They like politics. I don't. I'm apathetic, but so are most people who haven't had to live through seriously trying times like dictatorship and war on the homefront. If the time comes where I need to vote to change America, I will do it. I'm sure CNN will inform me of that time. And I totally don't mean to sound hostile; this is not meant to be a direct attack to anyone's comment. I actually just had this conversation with someone about this, and some of these issues came up, so I added them in.

I don't know who you are. But you're damned intelligent. I'm actually glad someone rebuked me with a valid arguement instead of just putting up something childish or pointless in response. Oddly I don't approve of Bush or Kerry either. Kerry seems ruthless although he proved to be a better speaker than Bush, who is mocked for his lack of intelligence; I don't approve of either of them taking office. I am in fact very involved with local political disputes which is what I feel strongly about, the vote isn't something I shove in people's faces. Although, I do believe it is important -- I am far too easy going to enforce others' opinions to vote like a mother hen. I'm much more worried about where I'll get my weekly diet of goldfish and green tea and scared by how dumbed down politics even local where I am have to be for the general public my age to understand them -- it does indeed frighten me for crazy ignorant people to vote just for the hell of it without prior knowledge. And to end this extremely long response because I am against hostility, especially in the nice environment you've all made for these posts, I have a comment. I mean this in the straightest way possible, I like you Auraki person you.

Lol...thank you . Yes, I tend to act somewhat silly when the occasion calls (and that seems to be rather often), but likewise when I see a well presented argument, my mind switches to "debate". I think also you made a good point, because I am always amazed when people can sift through all the crap in the media and make a well-educated decision. Look forward to exchanging opinions with you in the future .

Hmmm.. good arguments on both sides. Well.. for those that know me.. after college i'm going to law school to become a district attorney.. and later a senator, congress woman, and eventually the first female president. I'm sick of all this under the table, lying, cheating, stealing, and corrupt political shit.
I want to get this country on the right foot. And it's gonna be hard but i'm going to do it. And by golly i'm damn well gonna vote. Even though i hate both candidates. I would vote for Nadar,... but if he doesn't recieve 20,000 votes.. all of his votes go to the Present President. And i personally don't Like George.. and i dont like Kerry. I dunno who i'm going to vote for.. but I'm going to. I AM AN ARMY OF ONE! And the first to be female president. ~Mori'Quessir~

[glow=blue,4,300]I think it may be very difficult to set the country on the right foot. In order to keep the country in some sort of order, there have to be lies told or else you'll have widespread panic, riots and mobs and people stealing my food. It's a good thought though! [/glow]

auraki can I have your children? You have to wait in line. Oh, and also, I required a submitted gene deliniation and detailed family tree diagram before you can be considered for candidicy. In addition, please submit a full cup of urine for inspection. And...turn your head and cough.
