Alright...so I was checking up on the MSN news, as I do everyday, and as I was browsing through the articles, I came across this one, an article that goes into details about laptops and male users. The article states that the internal heat from laptops can damage their fertility--'the quality and quanity' of males' sperm. Anyway, the point of this thread is to discuss how with the increasing of time, everyday use of items become more dangerous and use of 'bad' substances are discovered to do some good. I mean, for a long time, it was stated that chocolate was bad for your health, then it was said that it may have decreased the risk of either heart problems or cancer (can't remember which). Things like cellular phones and other portable technology get reverred in being more dangerous by the day. Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? Do we have too much paranoia nowadays where we find something wrong with everything? Or are we just being on the 'safe side'? I believe it's paranoia. Most of the items that studies claim are dangerous or bad, people use anyway. I don't see a business man that travels a lot going to give up a laptop and possibly jeopardizing his job for the fear that the computer will damage his swimmers. We have to weigh out the pros and cons, and as a result, we focus in on the cons more than the pros. Pretty soon, I believe, we'll find something wrong with everything we use, and therefore, we will be abandoning almost everything we know. Thoughts on this?

Nothing is healthy or good for you anymore. Hell, being healthy is good for you.
Running causes arthritis. Swimming causes intake of bacteria. Lifting causes back problems. Vitamens, taken in excess revert the use. Too many steroids. I mean fuck.
And Lids is right, I mean Playing my GBA is probably bad for me, Having a dura shock controller in my lap is probably bad for me. If all this shit is bad for me, then whats good? How can I measure the safe amount of time I can use something? Or should I save the scientists that are spending millions of dollars to see how high a flea can jump the money and just shoot myself in the head, As I hear Iron is good for you. Fuckin scientists.

[glow=blue,4,300]Living is dangerous, breathing is dangerous, getting out of bed is dangerous... leaving your house can be dangerous.
It's strange how people can find out new things that are dangerous for people's health. LOL.
I remember they were saying cell phones can cause cancer. They say guys drinking too much yellow #5 in Mountain Dew can lower your sperm count... (not that I care, I hate babies and kids anyway).
Um... and with the laptop harming guy's kids.... I find that highly unlikely. I don't know a single guy that owns a laptop that puts his laptop over his genitals. That's way too close to do anything. People put laptops further down their legs... so that's just a really strange study.[/glow]

Michael Moores fearful America yo. This country almost seems to thrive on fear. The world has become our enemy, thanks to media hype. And that`s the most unhealthy way to live over all.
Well... apart from eating glass. I`d imagine that`s incredibly unhealthy. They should do a study on that.

The fact that heat is the most common factor in reproduction difficulties in males is a proven one. My Cousin Janice and her husband Daryl were trying to have a child, Daryl took the typical redneck stance. Its not me it’s the woman’s fault. Much later after all the testing that could be done had been done. she was declared “normal in all respects.” Daryl however was not, he had a low viable sperm count! Lol
The Reproduction Specialist had him wear looser underwear to help bring the temperature down about 1/2 to 1 degree. Closer fitting underwear means more friction thusly more heat during the day. Apply this to fact to any heat that sits close to the genitals, and you have cause for concern for a definite percentage of men.

"Myth: Male Fertility Is Reduced by Tight Underwear, Laptops and Hot Tubs (true)
What do male underwear, laptop computers and hot tubs all have in common? According to contemporary urban legend, they all lower fertility and can have cause serious problems for couples trying to have a child.
"The testicles are outside the body because they need to be cooler. Anything that increases the temperature of the scrotum can adversely affect sperm production," said Dr. Harry Fisch” He said with briefs, there's no definitive research, so most likely it's a myth. The hot tub can be more damaging to fertility. Fisch said if the water increases the body temperature to 104 degrees there can be a dramatic effect on sperm count. "As a matter of fact, sperm counts decline for the next two months. And it may take four to six months for the sperm counts to recover," said Fisch. Latops can kick out a heat of 104 degrees after an hour of use. Dr. Yefim Sheynkin of the State University of New York recently published a study on laptops that found they could cause permanent fertility problems when used directly for extended periods of time on the lap. "
However, breifs do not cause the temperature of the area to rise that high. Laptops, however, do.

Quite right Makk.
My redneck cousin is a farmer he is always out in the heat. This plus the friction -can have- not always will have an adverse affect.
It depends on the individual, if he is has weak sperm viability already, a little increase heat is enough to cause problems.
I did not mean to imply a percentage of men with healthy sperm viability would be adversely affected.
LOL, nice comment Asharodd!

...all this skeet-talk, I have to tell everyone what my 11 year old cousin said yesterday.
He walked up to me, and said--
"How do you know if you have a high sperm count?"
I was stunned that he even knew what sperm /were/, but I decided to forego the drawn out discussion, so I simply asked "How?"
"If you girlfriend has to chew before she swallows."
