Memes... the new study of how ideas move throughout societies...
...or something along those lines. That`s what I remember of picking up a 400+ paged book at the library and reading the first few words of it`s introduction. From what I read I realised that that type of thing isn`t really my bag, became disinterested as quickly as I had become curious and put the book back on the shelf.
I`ve often heard the word (Meme) being used in the Anime room, maybe to describe why people like Naruto ;D or some other reason. I don`t know. But people seem to care, so I ask you all; why should I? What's so fascinating about memes?

Lol....Kage.
Well, a meme is 'a unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.'
The reason I think this was applied to Naruto is the fanboys. I believe the term can be used to almost any mainstream anime. Anime is a form of art and expression that can attract many, and in many cases, the series or movie can be worn out by many admirers who only watch the horribly dubbed versions and swear by their lives that the English translations of such are the right way of saying names. *Shrug*
All fanboys can be clasified as such...But I don't understand why people care about using this term so much...to me, it's just another average definition in the dictionary. Not exactly overly interesting. But hey, I could be wrong here.

He he he! I already know! I typed it into Wikipedia pretty much as soon as I posted my last reply ;D
I suppose it`s meant to be interesting because it`s a new field of study. Beyond that... I dunno. They compare Memetics to Genetics on the page, and I suppose genetics is kinda interesting (or complicated), and worthy of analysis.
