I am doing this with an image I drew, just to see if this could be easily done with original work.
I got all the way to step three, but then I noticed that while my background disappeared, my lines had also. I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that my lines might not be true black, and that my line quality might not be perfect; but I tried to remedy that by posterizing the image.
I also didn't have a scanner available, so I used a digital camera, which gave me plenty of problems by itself. I had to cut the image out and paste it on a new image, as well as make the white spaces true white.
So, is there anything that I am doing wrong? I can see the lines when I bring the eye icon back, but once I get rid of it, I have a clear board.

Ahh nevermind. I didn't realize the new layer should be a background copy. It worked out very well .
