I was so shocked to see the Animatrix on TNT(a popular american tv. station) tonight. TNT usually shows nothing but dramas and what my friend once called "yuppie television" (though I would somewhat disagree with that). They showed the full length movie several times during the day today.
Has anyone else noticed anime becoming more and more popular in America? Or in other places besides Japan? And I mean more specifically on television. Either people are becoming more and more shocked with the things that anime can accomplish, or they are just looking for new things to keep pop culture from stagnating.
I think anime indeed will become pop culture at some point, in America and other places simply for the reasoning that anime can do everything and more that live actors and special effects can do. Some would argue we can never replace live entertainment, but I say give it 15 yrs. Actors that don't age, limitless environment rendering, special effects that can't be done any other way but by animating....the possibilities seem endless.
My only worry is that the reserve of fresh ideas is going to run dry soon. We even have that problem in live movies now.

Yeah, Anime has become more popular, involed with saturday mornings like on fox box , The only problem is american and Japanese values are different and that leaves oringinal content to be edited making it seem stupid and nothing more than another cartoon. (note: Dragon Ball Z was americanized for content and it blows.) Usally Anime falls into the section with Cartoons just because for the fact its animated and many people dont understand the difference. By Accident my mom rented Heavy Metal ....

LoL....Heavy Metal 2 was better....
But I do agree, the editing sucks for hardcore fans. But honestly....it's better for beginners, who aren't used to the extremes of japanese culture. Anime nees to be introduced gradually in my opinion. Though, when I do introduce an anime, I try to find a balance between the mainstram and the freaking awesome.

I believe some things are better in its rawest form. Anime should be left exactly where it is, in the shadows and left to people to find it on their own or through the gentle shoving of a friend. Anime becomes in its own way destroyed when it is forced down the throats of people who wanted nothing to do with it at first and are now completely obsessed with it. The worse thing about it is that in order for people to follow it, it has to be talored to the beginners. This is the most watered down version and loses its punch when translated from Japanese to English. At first, when I started watching it, I loved the fact that it was in English. But then I started watching animes dubbed from Japanese and felt I was getting the purest form of it (bad spelling and all). Maybe I'm mean, but I think anime should stay on Adult Swim, and on fansubs.

Yeah, with all the anime they're showing on TV, half of it is geared towards children, which leads people to think that anime is just like practically all other cartoons. I'm surprised to hear The Animatrix was on TV, I'm sure they edited it alot, because it's a very graphic series. Did they show all of it or just a few sessions?

Im shure the only reason animatrix was shown on TNT(damn turner) is the fact that its not so much a anime but a tie in to a high budget hollywood movie.
For those of you who arnt aware of ted turner, he owns tnt and cartoon network and tbs and many other cable stations is a very ritch old hick.I once was watching some loony toons late at night on CN only to my shock/anger i saw they had censored it.What the hell is up with that, its daffy duck not some rated R edited for tv movie. For whatever reason most of whats show on CN(adult swim includded) is hacked up, and its true for other turner stations.I dont understand it, i dont care for it, and im glad i dont have cable ; )

[glow=blue,4,300]Yeah, I noticed that they censor a lot of the stuff. Especially on Cartoon Network. If you're gonna censor Looney Tunes, don't show it. I don't think there's a bunch of five year olds that are gonna blow off their friend's face to see if all it does it rearrange it (all over the wall). Come to think of it... I don't think there are any five year olds that can pick up a shotgun... how heavy *are* shotguns?[/glow]
