What initially draws you? Beautiful art, or a great story line? Can you have one without the other?
I have a feeling old school anime fans will say plot, but after seeing a few excellent anime from the 80's and 90's, I have to say I am on the Story bandwagon. Story, and dialogue, actually.

Yeah, story is better, even though visuals are a definite plus. I mean, you can like an anime solely because it looks awesome, but that's usually not the case. I think style attracts more people, but a story keeps them interested.

I would say for ecchi stuff, it's gotta be the ART Now for serious anime Story is important and characters. One of my favourite anime is Hajime no Ippo, the story is not great per se (simple story line in many ways). The characters in that anime and the way how they interact with each other makes this Anime stand out. There is a lot of character development and you get to understand the characters and why they act in a certain way. Story & well developed/designed/ characters makes the anime in the end.

I'm definitely with the story, myself. At first I may say style, because it's something that you initially see and it draws you in, but after awhile you'll get past how pretty the pictures are and begin to look at the plot. If you don't have a good plot or something to keep your interest, then what's making you come back? I don't find a lot of people that would say, "Yeah, the storyline for (insert anime here) sucks, BUT THE PICTURES ARE PRETTY!" Even though there are some instances when the style is so freaky I won't go anywhere near it *coughcough*Reign*coughcough*

"Yeah, the storyline for (insert anime here) sucks, BUT THE PICTURES ARE PRETTY!" (insert anime here) = GitS 2: Innocence, what a rip off. Anyways, I'm more about how the anime is presented in the first few episodes. It has to be able to grab my attention, the story comes after that. Take Fruits Basket, neat begining but towards episode 18 I got tired of the main character just being so dumb.

Hehe...yeah, I only liked her dumbness (if that's even a word) in the very beginning when she was so nice, she was stupid. But then the other characters kinda took over from there and kept the anime interesting, in my opinion.

Let's see...The one thing I notice right off is the art. I want what I'm watching to be truley a work of art. But if the actors doing the voices suck, either english or Japanese(I prefer subs) I won't watch it, no matter how pretty it is. But really, in the end, you can't have a good show without a good storyline, it can look good, but if it's not played out well you're not going to want to watch it. I love great storylines, I'm a sucker for romance, especially manga, but I love Hellsing and Boogiepop Phantom! Naruto has the awesom-est most interesting storyline ever, I could never get bored watching Naruto, same with FMA!!

Excel Saga was dubbed and it kicks ass. It's awesomeness know no bound. The dubbing just makes it funnier. Ani, hit me up with that Naruto episode, I wants to see it! '' B

I've never seen Excel Saga dubbed, but I am so in love with the Japanese voices actors in that series, I don't think it would be the same in english...I watched the whole series in a day like a year or two ago...that's one one thing I wouldn't reccomend!!!
